Anyone can get affordable custom-fitted masks thanks to the 3D facial acquisition.
Quebec City, Canada – TechMed 3D, a leading provider of human body measurement software, announced today the launch of its new Face Scan Mode, which will make the creation of custom-fitted masks accessible to the market.
Now that deconfinement has gradually started in some countries, the wearing of masks is becoming strongly suggested and even mandatory in certain places and businesses. However, the shortage of masks and the downsides of wearing standard respirators make it not an ideal scenario. This is where the need for custom-fitted masks comes into play. Masks that are well adapted to an individual’s face are safer, more comfortable, and facilitate breathing and speech.
With the 3D facial acquisition, individuals will be able to make custom masks. It takes around 1 minute to complete a face scan simply by using TechMed’s 3DSizeME App along with a Structure Sensor for iPad or iPhone. Then, scans can be sent online to any mask manufacturer, or files can be exported and sent to the supplier of choice.
«Since the start of this pandemic, we’ve been thinking about how we could push TechMed 3D’s technology further. We already offer full head scanning, which is currently being used on the market for creating helmets for babies. However, we’ve realized that offering a facial only scanning mode can help accelerate acquisition, and lower costs. » said Michel Babin, TechMed 3D founder, and CEO.

This easy-to-use technology is accessible to everyone. It may be used by 3DsizeMe’s users who already have scanners in hand, by people who want to offer a roaming scan or by anyone who has access to an iPad or iPhone along with a Structure Sensor.
«We also wanted to take it one step further by guiding people on how they can begin scanning or where they can get custom masks. This is why we’ve also launched our website that centralizes all the details needed to get started.» said Michel Babin, TechMed 3D founder, and CEO.
To validate the concept, TechMed 3D collaborated with a Quebec company, BeyondMask™ powered by Aurelia Gloves Canada, which designs very comfortable masks using 3D printers. After being scanned, customers can then buy a mask made with their own measurements.
